Recent technology efforts in lasers for multiphoton microscopy are directed towards a seamless integration of femtosecond lasers and microscopes. This is happening both with complex lasers used for advanced neuroscience and for compact, easy-to-use lasers used for specific tasks in multiphoton imaging with an eye to future diagnostics and clinical applications.
